Dr. Tawny Schlesener is one of the doctors who helped open Green Valley Animal Hospital in 2008. With the hope of making our clients more familiar with our practice and staff, we thought we'd share a little bit more about Dr. Tawny with everyone.

"I grew up on a farm in Kansas, so I've been familiar with animals all my life," Dr. Tawny said. "Ever since I was young it's been my life long dream to be a veterinarian."
After working at another hospital, Dr. Tawny jumped at the opportunity to start up Green Valley.
"It's great working here," she said, "our hospital is different because we take our time and avoid that hustle and bustle you would get at a clinic that is just trying to get people in and out as quickly as possible. I think we give our clients a unique experience in that regard."
She also had positive things to say about her staff and all the people that make Green Valley Animal Hospital run.
"The three words I would use to describe our staff are caring, educated, and together," she said. "It's a great staff and a great team."
An advocate for pet owner education, Dr. Tawny is never hesitant to give out tips and information that is useful for people and their animals.
"The biggest thing for pet owners is to be good about an animal's diet," she said. "We have a lot of overweight pets because people tend to ignore proper nutrition for their pets. Giving animals and table scraps doesn't just result in obesity either, it can cause serious problems on a pet's digestive system. I think diet is so important just because it's easy for people to overlook what and how much they are giving their pet."
Dr. Tawny also had a few holiday safety tips for pet owners as well.
"At this time of year we introduce a lot of new risks and opportunities for problems," she said. "For example, cats are notorious for getting into holiday ornaments and tinsel, while chocolates and treats like that present the potential for unwanted ingestions. The best thing you can do is to be vigilant and always supervise your pets, treat them the same way you would treat small children that need looking after."
A graduate of Kansas State University, she has been practicing veterinary medicine in the valley for over 6 years. Dr. Tawny enjoys the challenges of veterinary medicine and looks forward to each new day at Green Valley Animal Hospital.
Fostering pets gives her great joy, and Dr. Tawny and her husband share their home with three rescued dogs and five cats. When not at the clinic, she loves visiting family and friends, gardening, and walking with the dogs.
